Back on the Radio

I have missed being on the radio.  Quite a bit.  Working in politics generally means not talking to the media, because the chances are too great you'll say something that will embarrass your boss.  Perversely, working in politics also makes you want to talk about it even more because darn it, you want to take it to that guy spouting his idiotic opinion.

So, I created my own radio station.  Or, more of a talk show, really.  I'm giving this podcasting thing a shot on BlogTalkRadio.com.  You can find it at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/jschardin/, and what you're going to hear is conversations with people I know about whatever I feel like talking about...music, sports, films, and definitely politics.

Since the show is me talking with my friends, and probably not a lot of people are going to hear it, I'm tentatively calling it "The Algonquin Rounding Error."  Since that's probably way too obscure and hard to remember, though, it'll likely change in the future, and I'm open to suggestions.

I did my first show with Dr. Jim Heilman tonight dissecting Thursday's upcoming NFL Draft...take a listen and let me know what you think:

A Stupid Dog's Descent Into Psychosis

Hey, there's a new Hyperbole and a Half!  It's consistently one of the funniest things on the Internet, although it doesn't come out nearly as often as it used to.  Check out Simple Dog's temporary descent into psychosis:

If you need a little background, check to see just how stupid Simple Dog is, and how she and her sister dog with no self esteem did not cope so well with moving from Montana to Oregon.

Now, I hope Chris Onstad feels rejuvenated soon, because I sure miss Achewood.

Bad Game, Good Time

Went tonight to see the Twins - wow, can they not hit lately - get destroyed 11-0 by the Orioles, partly in the rain.  But, I had a great time with Dakota & Becca, and check out our seats:

A Tour Through '80s Malls

NBC takes a photo tour of malls in the '80s...big hair, cassette tapes, kinda' ridiculous shirts and arcades!

Thanks to my friend Mark for this one.

Solving the Deficit By Doing Nothing

One thing I have to give Paul Ryan's vacuous budget plan is that at least it made a number of other players in the political arena come out with their versions of how to get rid of the deficit.  The short of it is, it's actually not nearly as difficult technically to balance the budget.  Most of the hard stuff is political.

For example, if Congress simply does nothing, the problem will by and large disappear: away go the Bush tax cuts, the Medicare "doc fix", the "AMT patch" and some more things that interest groups will not let happen.  It's not the package I would select, but I've seen a lot worse.
